Jay Nordlinger is a political journalist and music critic, writing about a range of issues. He is a senior resident fellow at the Renew Democracy Initiative, founded by Garry Kasparov in 2017. He writes and podcasts for its publication, The Next Move. He is the music critic of The New Criterion. He also writes and podcasts on Substack, at Onward and Upward. He is a contributing writer for The Dispatch. He is a fellow at Polyhymnia, an arts-and-letters consortium. He is a journalist-in-residence at the Center for the Philosophy of Freedom at the University of Arizona. Since 2002, he has given talks and conducted interviews for the Salzburg Festival Society.

He is the author of Peace, They Say, a history of the Nobel Peace Prize, and Children of Monsters, a book about the sons and daughters of dictators. His articles are collected in Here, There & Everywhere and Digging In.

A native Michigander, he has long lived in New York.
