Terrible question. That's the Lincoln Memorial? It's been decades since I visited but there was no ramp. It changes the perspective for sure. Not that I'm complaining - I'm scared of heights and walking down those stairs without access to the railing has always been an issue, even more so now with progressive lenses. Stairs tend to fall in the blurry zone. I'd probably have to scoot down on my behind without the ramp.

I love wordplay also, Mr. Nordlinger, as I try to be more than mediocre at it, but your way with words is worth every penny and then some. And I hope Trump suffers greatly, wherever he winds up, for his denigration and destruction of our White House.

Bob Hope. To every military man or woman who ever saw his show in a combat zone, have memories they will never forget. I was at Danang Air Base in 1971, flying F-4E's in the 421st Tac Fighter Squadron (Black Widow Squadron). We went across the base to the amphitheater where Bob Hope was to put on his Christmas show. We got there several hours early and got middle of the stage seats in the third row. It was a show none of us will ever forget. A bit of home, away from being shot at, protected by Marines and Huey gunships. Bob Hope was a Saint to so many of us. "Thanks for the memories!" RIP Bob.

The fantasy writer Piers Anthony's for-realsies last name is "Jacob".

A Banana Republic, if we do not get rid of it..that is, the elephant in the G.O.P. room. To this here Village Idiwitt Jay…speaking of being a funny kind of death penalty proponent Jay…The “blessed” rule of law that The Founders bequeathed to U.S….If you are pro the Declaration of Independence…not just a declaration of rights of man…but a bloody divorce decree, as it was a declaration of war and warning to red coats you will be summarily executed if you take up arms against the locals. I would sign my sacred life, honor and fortune over with a group of libertarians, I mean rebels with a cause to END TRUMPISM as we know it. How many “‘suspected’ drug smugglers”, I mean “narco terrorists” need to be whacked by Presidente Duterte, I mean Trump, before Congress finally finds a collective soul. God help U.S.

There is no such thing as T.D.S. There is such a thing as “Trump Deranged Sociopath” God help U.S.

John Adams most cherished quote by conservatives was prophetic…an immoral and sacrilegious Trump Bible Publisher has turned the Oval Office into the Bada Bing…and so called conservatives in Congress look the other way as FOXXXY News polls support The Don without any protest. 30’s Germany can happen here…and We the Living in Idiocracy. God help U.S.

Art is to the individual what the individual is to the art. Golden toilets and a fools gold salesman are one and the same-POTUS. God help U.S.

A minority, majority of my formerly beloved party got a G.O.P. Crasher and cheater elected President not once, but twice…what did John Adams say again…Gotta run on. God help U.S. Thanks for taking my rant Onward and Upward. Peace through superior mental firepower

As a style nut, I am pleased to learn the proper way to pluralize a lowercase letter is with an apostrophe. Thanks, Jay.

I too met WFB once. I was the President of the Library Association at my boarding school and the Great Man was our guest speaker at the Association's Annual dinner. It was my duty to ride to the airport in one of the school cars to pick him up. On the 30 minute ride back to the school I sat with him in the back seat and he spent the entire ride asking me about the School, my plans, my hopes, my family. He was sincerely interested in what this callow 16 year old boy was all about. I will always remember his genuine desire to know another human being and his kindness in the inquiry.

Very good answer: "People sometimes ask me, 'What can I do? What can individual citizens do to help our country?' I usually say, 'Set an example. Be the best self you can be. That’s doing a lot, setting a good example. You don’t even have to say anything, or much.'"

Sometimes calling someone by the wrong name isn’t really your fault. Two weeks ago I went into a used bookstore in Edinburgh. I’d exchanged emails with the proprietor, Mr. Lytle. “Mr. Lytle?” I asked the gentleman at the desk. I pronounced it with a long “i” sound, as in "title". The Scotsman corrected me — it was pronounced “little”. The discussion that followed was more formal and business-like than I had hoped for It wasn’t my fault!
