I remember Siracusa with great warmth, so much so that I recommended it to my daughter and son, both of whom took their families there. Don’t remember the spaghetti though.

One of my favorite culinary memories of Sicily was linguine with clams in Chefalu, where Cinema Paradiso was filmed. Thanks for your Italian posts. For me very nostalgic.

Wonderful piece! My fiancée and I will be visiting Sicily for our honeymoon next April, and we’ll be on the lookout for the Ear of Dionysius and the other ancient artifacts in Siracusa. I first learned about ancient Syracuse in James Romm’s Plato and the Tyrant, a great read. Thank you for sharing, Jay!

So evocative, so real, and loved the combination of text and photos. i wrote about the Ear of D. in my second Churchill book -- the great man visted Sicily too but not during the war.
