How I do love me some Jaywalking with a morning cup of Joe to know life is still beautiful in spite…of the political world flipped upside down. Who woulda thought that the same Papacy threatening a good man…would over a half a millennia later…not have anything threatening to say about the worlds most powerful man, psycho killer, residing on a plot of land Christopher Columbus actually thought was the India…and that the Pope would be born and raised on the other side of the globe. Jay - this was what i was getting at with Ralph Williams - you truly missed an opportunity at UM on the Dante front. That's was the hook that got me to that summer program. And when I returned, Ralph hosted a once-a-week, late-afternoon session for Dante lovers - in the MLB. We had the Italian/English version side by side. We'd go through one canto each time. Ralph would parse the Italian, then we'd discuss the English. It was marvelous, truly. Thank you for this vicarious vacation. My actual vacation last month was to the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. I have never been to Italy so I will go no further than to say I can't imagine Charleston having much in common with the places you have profiled, aside from reverence for the dead.
