To the Village Idiwitt I find it kinda fascinating you made no mention of the Hanoi Hilton, I mean Hinkley impersonator, I mean ass ass inator…who’s so called manifesto was even dumber then his computer geek mind must have been lit up on when he actually thought he could run through a metal detector and not get lit up…wait, wait, why wasn’t he lit up on sound and sight when that fire alarm went off..just asking questions, as I give the wannabe leftists hero props for having the foresight to check into the hotel days prior…another overlapse of Presidential security that must have the Iranian mullahs head scratching how in the hell did not is die hard Muhammadans not think of that…anywho, I get it is not worth your time anymore than this here ramblin man’s rumblins

Anywho, just as I find it positively absurd the so often repeated political talking point that the “third” attempt on The Don’s life is somehow representative of a rise in political violence, as much as everyone with a good soul loathes anti semitism, I don’t think I am going out on a political limb here to say we are living in a most tolerant, peaceful country, in spite of the madness of crowds at Columbia…the Colombians being representative of the Colombians, not Amerika…anymore than the would be shooter is representative of leftists…that why one can name on one finger how many have tried to check him out after checking in the Paris Hilton hotel.

Funny how I always spell laundry mat with a “y”, as I have always wondered where the “o” came from in a word that has never sounded write, I mean right, pronouncing I am doing “laundro”. Gotta run on. Thanks for taking my rant Onward and Upward. Peace through superior mental firepower

If if if. That person on social media makes no sense. Since when does Israel and its politics represent all Jews around the world? Presumably, a fair number dislike Netanyahu themselves, given the political tendencies of Jewish people in the United States. But, as you say, people have been finding excuses for at least 2000 years. I suppose I shouldn't expect today's excuses to be any better than those of the past.

I guess that Duke is not far enough South to use the the term "Washateria," which I see was "coined[!] in Fort Worth in 1934."

“Um”s and such are known as “vocalized pauses.”

I wonder how closely "vocalized pauses" are related to "filler words," such as "you know" and "like". A friend once proposed substituting, for "like," the grander phrase "like unto being."

"Bill Clinton was, like, a president in the 90s."

"Bill Clinton was like unto being a president in the 90s."

I have recently observed that communication by text message has a version of "filler words," specifically "btw" (by the way) and "fyi" (for your information). These letter sequences would provoke me to something like unto physical violence if the sender were nearby.

Wait until you notice how many text messages and social media posts lack final punctuation.

You're welcome, btw. You're sure to see it everywhere now! ;)

My adult children say, "Nobody capitalizes and punctuates all their text messages except you, Mom." I'm sure there are others, though.

I have thus far managed to avoid the annoyance of owning a "smart phone" or any device capable of receiving a text. Sadly, this is becoming a handicap due to all of the firms now wishing to use texts as part of login security. When I tell people I don't own a "smart phone", they look at me as though I had just asked where I might tie up my horse and buggy.

A wonderful essay, Jay.

Your writing style reminds me of talking over the fence on a Saturday morning, with a neighbour whose views I admire.

You noted that violent antisemitism is hitting all time highs in Canada, a Country you very kindly referred to as nice.

Synagogues in Montreal, and Toronto have been repeatedly the target of gunfire. Restaurants owned by Jewish folks have been targeted with demonstrations, graffiti, and gunfire. Mobs of anti-Jewish “protesters” block the streets regularly chanting “Death to Israel”, “From the River to the Sea” and, well, you get the drift.

Perhaps less well-known is the number of Christian churches that have been burned to the ground, across the Country. Most will not be rebuilt.

I don’t recognize my Country any more. I am a stranger in my own home.

So, let me thank you for the kind words, but the Country to which you refer died some time ago, and shan’t likely return any time soon.

This essay was a pleasure to read.

Thank you again.

Jay, I would like to share this with you.

“Anyone watching the Sabres-Bruins hockey game last night witnessed an astonishing sight: when the young lady’s microphone failed during the Canadian National Anthem, the fans in the audience picked up the cue and performed the words perfectly.

I don’t know if the majority of folks were Canadians, or if the Buffalo American fans offered that spectacular presentation; I just know that it was nice to watch, and that I will never forget.”
