It's not just the youngsters who don't carry cash anymore.

My 27-year-old daughter and I are currently visiting Burlington, Vermont and, yesterday, were approached by a young man asking for one dollar. She and I talked about how neither of us regularly carry cash.

"I wanted to share a thought, which occurred to me the other week."

When did we start saying "the other week" rather than "recently" or "weeks ago"? Linguistically, it's an obvious development from "the other day," but I think it fails philosophically. A week is too large a unit to "other" with, and imagine "the other month" or "the other year." It lands with a thud.

Jay, I think a number of folks were cheering for the Brewers for exactly those reasons you listed, and, perhaps, one additional reason: that is, they play an exciting brand of baseball.

A single, a walk, a steal, a bunt and suddenly we have two guys in scoring position.

How many times did they turn double plays to end innings with opponent runners stranded?

It was just fun watching small-ball and great defence succeed for a change.

The biggest problem I find is having a team that actually wins. It’s very new to me!!

I also follow the Blue Jays and the Tigers, so I am a bit of a baseball free agent.

Those Brewers will do just fine!!
