Speaking of colorblindmess, I have a dream one day we the people will all be equal in the eyes of man’s law, regardless of race, gender or class.

Speaking of Late Nite, if Stephen Colbert were half as funny as South Park he would be making twice Paramount Plus money and all the streaming services would be courting him. The world’s current biggest midnight tweeker, I mean XXX anti truth sociopath narcissist megalomaniac ain’t got nut in to do with the unfunny man’s political downfall.

Speaking of there never being peace in the Middle East after all your teen years gone by Jay, leave aside the still missing hostages, not until you, I, or anyone just being Jewish can go to anywhere in Gaza or the West Bank and have the right to free speech, freedom of religion or freedom from religion, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom to petition ones government, freedom to bear arms…and can say out loud, like Nietzsche, Allah is dead without any worry of harm….yeah, I will make like Christopher Hitchens on your Substack without any threat other then being shadow banned. Like Germany, Palestine has to be de Nazified, and not until it is will ISREAL not be at war, as it is will also most certainly be a magnanimous hegemon to its neighbors if the Gazans just unconditionally surrender and return the kidnapped.

This here running cognoscenti would just like to suggest I think those old wise men where on to something when they wrote, I mean said God commands taking a day of rest.

Thanks for taking my rant Jay. Gotta run on. Onward and upward. Peace through superior mental firepower

I recently posted something on the Israeli war situation in my FB group Intelligent Conversations Between Liberals and Conservatives ( shameless plug https://www.facebook.com/groups/536346089874417 ) that acknowledges the difficulty of finding the truth but it posits that the US as the donor of massive weaponry to the tune of 3.8B owes it to answer the difficult question of whether Israel is committing war crimes beyond the inevitable sporadic you see with even the best of intentions from the military. The fact that Israel has shut off the strip from all journalists and has killed several, whether intentional, negligent, or mistakenly I don't know. I would like to see a high level commitment from the IDF with an embedded US presence to have oversight on the conduct of the war.

The easy out is to blame all the negative information on Hamas, and, yes, they are not trustworthy, but eg many of the groups I give money to, Save the Children, World Central Kitchen, etc. are claiming that Israel is not living up to the Geneva Conventions, one aspect is that an occupying army cannot just ignore civilian disasters in places they have control.

I think the recent pivot of both Trump and Israel to at least address the humanitarian disaster leads me to believe there was negligence previously.

I see that at Dispatch, Jonah and others expend most of their brain power on attacking the pro Palestinian folks with their left revolutionary narratives and pushing the genocide angle, which I dont think it is, but not addressing the possibility of war crimes and just dumb policy. I think what we learned from Petraeus in Iraq is that you just can't bomb a civilian population into oblivion, nor is it ethical, but you need to develop counter structures to Hamas as killing every Hamas operative in an urban environment probably requires destroying much of the civilian population.

Hey Wolfe, I read and tune into all things Dispatch and I know not, respectfully, W.T.F. you are talking about Jonah expending any amount of brain power…but perhaps you are mistaken him for his friends at Commentary. Anywho, to wit, like I would say on your Facebook page if it where not closed to the public…not until you, I or anyone that happens to be Jewish have at the very least our sacred First and Second Amendment rights protected by Palestinian Law…there will never be peace in the Middle East …in other words, death to all Nazis, I mean Jihadists. War is hell, and may those that started it go six thousand feet under, the sooner the better. Gotta run on Peace through superior mental firepower

I have read almost everything that JG has written on Israel and nowhere have I seen any acknowledgement that Israel may be violating norms of war, Geneva Convention or that their current safety justifies massive civilian casualties and food shortage, the destruction of virtually all habitable shelter. David French has addressed this imo over at the NYT where Jonah has ignored it and addressed imo the mischaracterization of genocide as well as the apologists for Hamas and I don't disagree with that. War is hell and often necessary, no pacifist, but war needs to be fought humanely.

The evil of Hamas or the naivety of the left's apologism for them does not countenance war crimes or just stupidity of Netanyahu. The blood on the hands of Hamas does not give one the right to withhold food or cause massive civilian deaths.

I agree that Hamas has to go, but I dont think Israel is achieving those ends. You cant just bomb Hamas into oblivion without bombing the entire population into oblivion.

Do you believe in the Geneva Convention or any standards of war. Can you withhold food for an entire population because that hurts Hamas. The reference to Petraeus' success in Iraq is the acknowledgement that you have to support a counter movement to Hamas, who are not particularly well liked and Israel is doing that some, arming some of the clans but they need to avoid destroying the entire population which they seem on a path towards.

Hi Wolfy I appreciate your long winded response, as I am prone to such stream of unconsciousness, as I get your passion. I cannot speak for Jonah, but will come to my political and cultural commentators defense, since you brought him up. I stand by my retort, as nothing you said convinces me that Jonah expends an inordinate amount of brain power…except not on a position you hold that you have even expanded on here on this thread.

I will get back to you when I have the time to respond further, as I always try to give time to any and all of my interlocutors points, just not with my cell phone, let alone when I am at the beach 😜✌️

And yes I have kind of abandoned that FB group, because Meta has been inviting all my friends, and I dont want a political argument group, have enough already, so just put it on hold. It was more of a thought experiment.

Good morning Wolfy, funny, I checked out your Facebook group because you recommended, I mean mentioned it, only to come to find out you closed up shop. I get it, I do not want Facebook friends arguing with me about my politics, unless they agree with Witt🤪. Anywho, much as I find most of your comments regarding what’s happening on Gaza to be important to consider (very big, of true, the allegations of genocide, and or implications of cleansing) I came to the defense of my intellectual and political comic hero Jonah because I reject the notion that Jonah (and others) expends much brain power attacking leftists pro Palestinian folks. Leave aside what Petraeus did in Iraq has nothing to do with Gaza, let alone analogous (but that would be another argument I have not got time for). But if you ask me, Jonah could spend all day attacking leftists idiocy defending Nazis, I mean Gazan’s for, like good Germans, for not eliminating the Hamas folks amongst them many, many, many moons ago, and therefore, like Dresden, and all German adults of the early 40’s, deserve not one second of my lamentations. All the fing stupid adult scum in Gaza have to do is unconditionally surrender and give up the hostages, and I guarantee you Wolfy, like the greatest (liberator) country on Gods green earth, the United States of America did in Europe and Japan, the magnanimous hegemon of the Middle East will fix what they have undesirably broken. And Isreal, unlike the Palestinians, will most definitely prosecute its own war criminals. Speaking of leftist folks, you ever notice the current fad of countries recognizing a Palestinian state have yet to call for the no good peoples of Gaza and the West Bank to recognize the (Jewish) states right to breathe, I mean exist. But like the great Christopher Hitchens, do not get me started on the inherent word of Allah that is the very root cause of all the innocent blood shed in Palestine and why no good Palestinians eliminated Hamas in their mist in the first place, because they most are in communion with their evil rules immoral sentiments in the first place. Sorry to have to say, what’s happening in Palestine ain’t the Joozes (hat tip Jonah) fault, nor does Jonah expend as much brainpower lamenting about what Isreal, or its good, bad or ugly policies because…well, I cannot speak for him. Gotta run on. Thanks for taking my rant. Peace through superior mental firepower

The Israeli / Palestinian issue strikes me as analogous to that of Europeans and American Indians.

My first wife's dad, a descendant of the Pequot nation, blamed Massasoit and his tribesmen for letting the Pilgrims settle at Plymouth: "Oh there's just of few of them on the boat, what could it hurt?"

Israel was formed as a refuge for WWII displaced victims, and promoted as an historic homeland.

As the population grew, and more came "home," they naturally began to spread, pursuing the same "manifest destiny" that "justified" colonial usurpation of indigenous possessions. The result is a collision of truly "Biblical" proportions.

Another great column!

“I n my view, that is not the point, or the most important one. I don’t think a U.S. president, or the U.S. government, should be a player in entertainment television. And this is independent of whether I, personally, care for a particular performer.” Outstanding!
