Secondment…word of the day. Don’t mean to be provocative, as I know my choice of words is often offensive to many…But I am on a mission from the god in my head to oppose all things grotesque that is Trumpism. To Witt, the reason the President of the United States speaks favorably of a mass murderer and war criminal Vlad the Ukrainian Impaler and, there never being a stoop to low for Heat Miser to say, even defend the Evil Empire of Putinstan…is for the same reason The Don, with a straight face looking into the camera…would peddle a Bible with his own name on it, stitched in Fools Gold, all for the low, low, low price of 666…Everything and anything Trump…as the old saying goes…Like any crime family bosses amoral decision…Just follow the money…and respect The Man in charge of his domain…Who cares if Putin is a cold blooded killer…He Rules! ….in The Dons crony capitalist pig mind. Like with the poor British nurse savaged by Nazis and the cowardly British government looking the other way…Where have all the Republican cowboys gone, while Heat Miser in the flesh burns everything he touches of our formerly beloved parties legacy…and actual conservatives, respecters of law, tradition, civilized behavior, culture all announce they are leaving Congress…and one cannot think of one real man of genius and courage who will stand up to The Man in Washington …I am beginning to believe that South Parks mockery of FOXXXY News reporters, dancing in the streets, when [trigger warning coarse language] they learn the good news (normally I would capitalize those words out of respect) “Are you fing Satan” is based on a true story. In the meantime, like Speer and Hitler, Trump and his creepy, clever son in law are drawing up plans for a new Washingtonia…with plans for an obelisk shaped like a very big phallic symbol, to dwarf the Washington Monument, to show Matt and Trey who’s in charge here. “No joke” as the previous occupant of the White House would say. God HELP U.S. We the Living in Idiocracy. Resistance is not futile, it is ones duty to confront and oppose Trumpers in all there grotesque life forms. Gotta run on. Thanks for taking my rant Onward and Upward. Peace through superior mental firepower

I am appalled at those Republican congresspersons who refuse to stand up against Trump. Never mind the courage aspect. I assume they have done the calculation that in doing so, means they'll be defeated next election. I believe, they still will be, but by a Democrat. In my opinion, a very large number of independents who voted for him, will be so unhappy with Trump and his sycophants, they'll go for most any alternative. As for the Congressman, never having been in politics, I understand the decision to avoid that situation.

Thank you, Jay, for saying the truth about Trump. Unpleasant truth.

Your young correspondent could profitably read "The Myth of Left and Right", by Hyrum and Verlan Lewis. (Also, Substack should let me underline and italicize.)

In this vein, when you wrote, "I talked with several right-of-center Danes who had long been pro-American," what was it about those Danes' policy preferences, philosophies, or what-not that caused you to define them as "right-of-center"?

Hello, Cynthia! I am talking about conservatives who favor limited government and individual rights. Who value civil society. Who favor free enterprise and free trade. Who oppose socialism. Who are anti-Communist, pro-democracy. Who back the Ukrainian cause and understand Putin to be a disaster and menace. Who are pro-NATO and support a strong national defense. Etc., etc. You will meet some of these people in my piece from earlier this year. I admire them. All the best …

Thank you, Mr. Nordlinger. I've found you to be a good judge of character, so just on that basis, I'm sure I'd admire them, too. It's almost as if "right-of-center" was used to mean "the vibe of good people we admire."

My point was about the meaning of words, particularly right-center-left. Why is "pro-democracy" a "right-of-center" view in Denmark? Is the center in Denmark dubious about democracy? How about national defense ... does the center (or left-of-center) in Denmark reject national defense?

Does the center or left-of-center not value civil society? Feel chummy toward Putin and oppose the Ukrainian cause? Oppose individual rights?

As a person about your age who defines "conservative" as "mid-80s Reaganite," the only points you mentioned that I find particularly associated with my conservatism are limited government and free markets/free trade. The other values, I think, could equally be espoused by people whose economic views are quite a bit more collective/managerial than mine.

Or, what does he mean by "center?"

Yes, that would be a good thing to know, as well, before one gets into "left" or "right" or "north" or "south" or whatever.

My prediction is that the emphasis will prove to be on "vibes" rather than concrete details.
