On JKR, yes a hero of mine also. Plus, a great story teller. As to Rosie, I've noticed over the years that sometimes a person's public face, for whatever reason, is quite different than their personal face. Just sayin.

JKR is a Great Writer of our time. I really mean this. She is also a Great Hero of our time - indeed one of the greatest. I mean this too.

On Trump: Living in Texas, his crackdown on illegal immigration has been a real benefit to our state and nation. I know Jay isn't a big fan, but Trump's time will pass, and a Ron DeSantis type will emerge and recenter the Republican Party. One does have to love JK Rowling and her stance on the Trans insanity in the world. I am concerned about her being in Britain with their current anti-free speech actions.

On Language: "Eatery". Drive me nuts when we end perfectly good place names with "ery". Some work and others work to create a place I do not wish to visit, and eatery is in the last category. One of the worse seen by me was "overnightery". In descending order of places I would stay are Hotel, Motel and, last, Overnightery. Sure to have bed bugs and other critters...a crittery, so to speak.

Thank you Jay. I like J.K. and salute her bravery.

I subscribe to Eva Kurilova's substack if you haven't seen it, you should, take a look. https://www.evakurilova.com/ She is a Canadian gender nonconforming, or as used to be said butch, lesbian who advocates against transgenderism, and recently had a baby.

It is odd times when myself, an old died in the wool social Democrat, who never voted for a GOP presidential candidate, though some wild contrarian hair had me cast ballots for Ross Perot once and Marshall Anderson, finds so much to agree with you, by virtue of my old cohort of Dems having gotten so deep in the woods into cancel culture and becoming the New Moral Majority for and resurrecting socialism, an appealing utopian vision that proves that reality gives different results, like consistent failure, than an appealing vision ( lesson for my Libertarian friends also).

And on your part seeing the right basically drink the crazy juice and become the true opponents of the age of reason and the enlightenment and seem to be heading back to the Inquisition.

I used to catch you at NR as I explored my conservative tendencies, but found that the constant liberal bashing, a little more sophisticated than Limbaugh, but of the same mindset, would just raise my tribal hackles, and so find myself here and at The Dispatch.

I still am more of a centrist and somebody who could break bread with John Kasich more than the principled Reaganites, but in this day and age, we need all hands on deck to thwart the populists who are now in power. The left has never been successful at least since FDR, because as Bernie Sanders often sounds like a windup doll saying bad billionaires every time the string is pulled, Americans actually like successful people. And the Democratic Socialists believe in democracy about as much as the Democratic Republic of North Korea is a democracy (in this argument I researched their website and found a recent article extolling the late Venezuelan dictator Chavez who turned a prosperous country into a basket case).

But, to get from long windedness to a point, and your little fantasy of running for office, I'd like to see a revival of the Democratic Republicans, the party of Jefferson and Madison before they split into the Democrats and Whigs. I actually started a FB group to that effect, one of my quixotic efforts as a devotee of Saint Jude the patron saint of lost causes, which has generally been the status for third parties, since the Republicans formed and the Bull Moose gave the election to Wilson. There already is No Labels of Hogan and Manchin, and the Forward party of Yang, We have had Independent candidates like Angus King and Lisa Murkowski win. Lets do it.

To the Village Idiwitt, the Libertarians are a big tent party and are still the only viable third party…But, like the G.O.P. Crasher, it will probably have to come from a revival within the Democratic Party, and the Oprahesque appeal generate a fan base down the middle and across the aisle. It worked for The Don. We the Living in Idiocracy. The next President is not going to be a vest wearing Jimmy Carter antidote to Tricky Dick….IMHO (I kid🤪). 🍺✌️

Reflecting on the wielding of influence to the detriment of the country, some might see a parallel between Loomer and Rasputin.

Here's a language question (nothing to do with anything mentioned in this post): A WSJ headline this week was "Americans Are Having Less Sex Than Ever". It didn't seem right to me that "sex" could be quantified as "more" or "less". Shouldn't this have been "Americans Are Having Sex Less Than Ever"?

I have a boring answer -- I think both work! Thx, Paul.

You seem to be saying that "having sex" should be a single concept - perhaps represented by a single ideogram, in a language that uses such symbols - rather than "having" (transitive verb) + "sex" (quantifiable direct object).

I would say that's a question of philosophy, or perhaps anthropology, more than a point of language.

We do have words for "havingsex" (the single concept), including "copulating" and a variety of vivid, popular terms I won't type here.

I wrote a reply this morning and clicked "Reply" but it's not here! It's lost now. But it was to the effect of yes, I DO see it as a single concept. And that it seemed to me a matter of where to properly place the modifier -- never an unimportant question.

I wanted to read more about the encounter with the parents of the adult disabled child. As someone with a physical disability from birth, I don't appreciate enough the efforts of my parents, and regret the time for expressing that gratitude has passed.

On Rosie (you are far more gracious than I could have ever been to a super rich socialist)…Rosie should pause for reflection and eat her own words “It’s SAD that celebrities’ opinions are given so much weight, but they are, in the culture we live in.” All Rosie has to do is first tell the truth, then she is more than welcome to give her opinion (I cannot help but think it was karma what happened to D.P. having gone all in for Trump and for having thrown his moral compass away). I am sorry, but when I hear someone spout off about how much they care about “the children” and miss not an opportunity to mention how much into giving they are….and how she loathes Republicans because they are only into making money….Funny how revealing vicious, prejudice stereotypes of “the other” when coming out of the fat mouth of our President, I mean Rosie. I dig you are a very gracious, decent man Jay…I am Roman [comma], Catholic, and Rosie and The Don bring the former out of me, BIG TIME

There will definitely be a book or two on Joseph Goebbels, I mean Laura Loomer, et al the “Rightist” Trumper Bible thumpers anti truth Neo nationalist sociopath dumb mass media the Cult of Trumps Personality has wrought…if it does not already bare the seeds of our sacred Republics destruction. Just as Germany had to De Nazify, it took the formerly world’s most powerful, popular and richest (like Trump….all misbegotten wages) to FINALLY take off the mortal coil of ours by his own hand…Why Trump has not already been impeached and removed for his many grotesque violations of the sacred Document he swore and oath to uphold…But I guess crossing one’s fingers while lying, emphasis on lying, one’s hand on a first print edition of The Trump Bible means our President can order the waxing of suspected drug smugglers…and like the joozes in 30’s Germany…most of my fellow Americans think it is a o k and just go about their daily business like there is nothing wrong with summary execution of suspected joozes, I mean illegal immigrants. God help U.S.

On the anti vaccine craze that started with R.F.K.J. being nothing but a two bit contrarian, conspiracy theorist loon to his very rotten core….around the time you were interviewing Rosie, our now Centers for Disease super spreader Kennedy was preaching with a straight face, all over the polluted Air Amerika Radio..that George W. Bush stole not one, but TWO Presidential elections…and that in between days Bush took down not one, but TWO of the world’s formerly tallest buildings…and that George W. Bush lied U.S. into not one, but TWO wars…If you had told me round about the time you were interviewing Rosie that the radio junkie host was one of these days going to be shilling for a President named Donald J Trump …I would be like, yeah, and Tony Soprano is going to come to real life and get elected to the Bada Bing, I mean Oval Office. God help U.S.

Forgive me Jesus…If only the Trump train could go down in flames like Epstein’s plane. Didn’t I pray GOD HELP U.S.

Anyone that does not 100% agree that J.K. Rowling speaks the truth should immediately have ones sacred right to suffrage revoked, I mean never be allowed to teach children otherwise…

Anyone who takes care of the adult handicapped has already got one foot in the door…to Heaven.

, Let me have your thoughts on my grammarly Jay…I kid, I KID I know I am not worth your time, as much as you certainly are of mind, I mean mine. Gotta run on. Thanks for taking my rant Onward and Upward Buttercup. Peace through superior mental firepower
