I would devour a book with each chapter a profile of some of the great writers/thinkers you have known. Bernard Lewis, Robert Conquest, Paul Johnson, WFB. We are about the same age and I view those men as intellectual father figures.
Thank you for reminding us of DPJ. He is talented on the page and a delight in person. My wife and I had the pleasure of spending time with him and Clarissa at several National Review events over the years. They were always generous with their time and thoughts, and they treated us mere "members of the public" as their equals. For a good idea of what a conversation with DPJ is like I recommend the episode of the documentary My Grandparents’ War, in which Helena Bonham Carter interviews her cousin DPJ on his experiences in WWII.
