My take: Kennedy was merely trying to keep things moving along and avoid being hit in the head by the poster. At worst, he had been briefed by Schmidt beforehand made the mistake of believing him. A middle theory: It was just another opportunity to get on camera--something few Senators can resist.
Fine column, Jay, but you were too kind to Senator Kennedy. He is smart, educated, aware of Trump's uncountable offenses against the Constitution, decorum, and common decency. No matter. He put party, politics, and position ahead of these things, and went along for the ride.
Evil grifters flock together. The Trump, new right, and global autocratic love fest is so totally predictable. Bad people know they are bad and seek each other out, constantly.
