Trump's changes to the White House are atrocious, disgusting, classless, ignorant, horrifying, and completely unnecessary. "DIsfigurement" indeed. Why is no one asking where he is getting the money to do this (and much else that he is doing)?
Looking forward to dispatches from Salzburg. I wasn’t a big bucket list guy, but my son and other relatives have been to Vienna, my wife’s twin sister and her husband attended a Mozart program.
"Presidents, Administrations, and White House Staff" have wanted a large event space contiguous to the White House. Well, too bad. Grand ballrooms are for monarchies and cannibal dictatorships, not for us. Our government needs fewer large, fancy gatherings and more Zoom calls. Save the Planet and all that.
No, my friend, you are not "overreacting" (you must never get over reacting) and wise Mona Charen is exactly right. The present administration is a degeneration of everything the founders of this nation risked their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to establish. The White House has been a living memory of their intention and sacrifice. The new administration has already tacked garish imitations of Caesar's Palace on the walls of the Oval Office; their ultimate goal is to replicate a Las Vegas representation of an oil potentate's palace: a monument to money, not freedom.
I am deeply offended by these disfigurations of the White House. When we are able they should be torn down just as the people of Iraq pulled statutes of Hussain.
It will never cease to amaze and dishearten me how many a moral compass Addie, I mean Donald Trump has broken. Speaking of disfigurement, whoever I used to be enjoying reading at my formerly beloved National Review was worth the price of admission. Where are the Dennis Pragers, Hugh Hewitts, Victor Davis Hansons, Rich Lowery’s, the Notorious Michael Brenden Daugherty of the political world raising hell about such an obscenity that is The Trump Cult. Oh, wait, they joined the counter culture club because they agree with the ogres “policies” and are true believers he is some kinda legit pushback to the all woke, no joke leftist. That’s why I call Trumpers (contrarians of a different kind) “Rightists”, and would never call them “conservatives”, let alone my fellow Republicans. W.W.J.D. Confront these cowards and politely tell them in no uncertain terms they are all a bunch of fools for following a man who literally put his name on the front cover of a Bible, for sale, at the low, low, lowlife price 666. Don’t forget what your Good Book says in the FIRST COMMANDMENT. God help U.S. We the Living in Idiocracy. [Didn’t I say I] Gotta run on. Thanks for taking my rant Jay. Onward and Upward. Peace through superior mental firepower
I see new opportunities for tackiness, gift shops, hall rentals, and general grift (redundant, I know). Some Trump Co. subsidiary will probably build it to kick back to POTUS - gotta keep everything in the family! I'm also thinking about the construction timeline (another excuse for term extension?) and whether this would replace a presidential library. No books required, anyway.
I'm loving this idea! Monetize the White House. White House snow globes, Presidential fudge, T-shirts that say MY PARENTS SLEPT IN THE LINCOLN BEDROOM AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT. I see the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library, Casino, and Golf Course in the future.
“In 2016, I used the word “disfigurement”—and “disfigure” and so on. Let me quote a piece I wrote in June of that year, explaining why I had left my longtime party, the GOP: “By nominating [Trump], the Republican party has disfigured itself, morally.” Is the White House now to be disfigured, physically?
To say it again, my instinctive conservatism may be in overdrive, unreasonably. I recognize that things “evolve,” including buildings. We will see.”
Last week, a convicted, registered sex offender visited - was hosted in - the White House. I doubt this has ever happened before.

You’re a breath of fresh air! My feelings exactly
So tacky and obscene! I can’t wait until this house of cards falls. Sometimes there’s a lot of destruction in its wake, though. Sad :(
Unfortunately it’s probably going to come from the American Left. And they’ll make sure it’s not reversible.
