Thank you, Jay. It’s a shame that some of things need to be said, but they really do. I feel that part of the problem is people (both left and right) treat politics as their religion now, and find their ultimate source of meaning and identity there. My recommendation: go for a walk on a nice fall day, spend time with your family, at your house of worship, or cultivating your other interests and hobbies. Make friends in some of those circles. I think you’ll find that some of this stuff that we get so angry about really isn’t as important as we think it is.

An ironic footnote to the Kirk killing: The musical group The Wailin' Jennys was scheduled to perform at Utah Valley University tonight (obviously now canceled). One of their most popular songs is the uplifting "One Voice". When the audience sings along to it during their concerts, it is very much like a church congregation singing a hymn. Very calming. It is what we need now.

A mentally ill career criminal could kill you, J. Random American, as you go about your normal activities. Vladimir Putin is not going to kill you, J. Random American, as you go about your normal activities.

More than a million people have been killed since 2/24/22, because of Vladimir Putin. That’s not counting Alexei Navalny, or, his former henchman, Prighozin, whose aircraft “mysteriously” exploded.

Yes, that's true. However, it's not a personally immediate threat for most Americans in their daily lives. "This could happen to me," is a significant motivator for "outrage."
